These are really cute, the only problem I have with the cloth coasters is that they are so absorbent and I have a glass of ice water or tea with me at all times. I could probably go thru a couple of dozen of these in a day!! LOL What would be a good suggestion for something to either go in the middle or on the bottom to be water proof for your furniture? Hi there, Judy. I only have glass cups that sweat a ton too, which is why I make my coasters with cloth. I use a layer of 100% cotton batting in the middle, and have never experienced a leak or wet furniture. I’ve been using the same set for about five years. If you are really concerned with the coasters soaking and leaking, try using a double layer of batting, and just be sure it is 100% cotton. My favorite is Warm N Natural. Happy crafting!ReplyCancel

Wow- you honestly would never know that this was such a problematic make! It looks beautiful! That fabric is so pretty and I can see exactly why you chose to pair it with that pattern. Huge well done for saving it and not getting too frustrated to continue, it was definitely worth it :)
NICE WORK! It is so emotionally hard to struggle with your creative outlet. Way to power through it. And look at what a lovely dress you ended up with!
It makes me so happy to see these photos of you in your finished dress. I was really so sad when I saw that initial picture of the dress on Instagram– first because it’s such a let down to have such terrible fitting issues and second because your fabric is just so lovely. Liberty fabric is like the Holy Grail for those of us who sew! I have two cuts of Liberty in my stash that are waiting for the perfect pattern (and I will make 10 muslins if I have to so that they don’t go to waste! Haha!) I think you did a great job working out the fitting problems. The dress looks great on you! I’m sorry to hear about all of the other life stresses that you have going on, too. I hope you can get the bank situation taken care of quickly! And from what I can see here and on instagram you are doing a great job holding things together with two kids and a husband who is away the majority of the time. I imagine it can’t be easy. Anyway, sorry for the longest comment ever. :-)
Love this post, Meredith. Brought back so many memories. My husband also worked 2 jobs for many, many years, so that I could stay home and be with the kids. Years that were frustrating and challenging, have now produced fond memories and gratitude. Being in the trenches is hard work, but the most important work you will do. Children grow up and life moves on. Sewing was my outlet that kept me sane. You are right, it was something that I could control in my life during that hectic season. This is your season of life and a wonderful season it is. Looking back, you will say “how did I accomplish so much?” You will be in awe of yourself.

Your finished dress is beautiful! I am very impressed that you knew how to fix it, I would have had no idea. I recently made a purse that gave me trouble from the very start (though it was my own fault) and I know the feeling of how satisfying it is to persevere and end up with an end result that you love :)
