I’m stuck at the waist band! I started the pattern awhile back, but was having trouble with the waist band fold – I just couldn’t figure it out! Any tips?
I’m not sure I understand exactly what part you’re having trouble with, so I’ll do my best to explain and you can let me know if you need more information. Basically, you’re going to sew on the band that will show on the outside first. Sew it on right sides together with the shorts front (and then do the same with the back one). [Note: the outside curve of the band goes on the bottom.] After you press it upwards, you’re going to take the lining piece (or facing, as I think they call it) and fold it up 1/2″ (on the outside, bottom curve) and press it. It may be easiest to sew a 1/2″ seam then iron using that as your guide. I always press the crease before attaching. So once you’ve done that, place the lining band right sides together with the outer band, and sew them together. Understitching is then done by pressing the seam allowance toward the lining piece then edgestitching the lining and seam allowance together with a 1/8″ seam. After you’ve done that, press the lining to the inside of the shorts, and then stitch in the ditch from the front side of the shorts, and that will catch the lining and keep it stitched down.
