I spent pretty much the whole day yesterday doing some hand quilting. I worked on quilting the Spinning Stars Quilt, and I started quilting this little number.
I’m working on quilting this baby quilt as a surprise for a mutual friend of many girls in the online sewing community. We all contributed blocks, and I volunteered to quilt the baby quilt. I just love all the colors! I’m spicing up each white block with a different color, and then I’ll be going around in colored block with white to really make each of these kissing fish pop.
Hopefully I’ll be able to finish up the quilting tonight while watching the big finale of the Voice. What’s on your plate this week? Any exciting projects?

It looks so great Meredith! Love the way you quilted it!
Hi Meredith. This looks great! I am quilting the large version; however I am wondering how you hand quilt. Do you use a frame? If so what kind? I am working on a quilt and think it would look great hand quilted but I do not know the slightest about hand quilting… Help?
I’d love to give you some tips! I do not use a frame of any sort, I just make sure to pin really well when I baste. I hate putting a quilt in a hoop, then taking it out, and repeating. My way may not be the “right” way, but I always have some handquilting project, and it works well for me. Do be sure to use a sharp needle with an eye large enough for whatever thread you are using (I always use Perle 5’s so I need to use a needle with a big eye). Other than that, I just try to do my stitches slowly (never more than one at a time), so that they look great on both sides. I like following the seam allowance under the finished fabric. For the baby quilt, I was able to see the white seam allowance underneath the blocks, and I made my stitches along those lines. I’m not sure if I answered all of your questions, but I’m happy to answer any more! Ask way!
Thank you so much. I have a circle of geese quilt I want to quilt. It is actually quite big so I was thinking that I might need a frame. But I do not really want to use one. I am going on several long road trips this summer so I thought it would be fun to hand quilt them. I think I I am going to try and pray for the best!
