If you are thinking of trying this bag I would caution you against it. Seems simple but the instructions are very sparse. Pieces are missing from the cut out instructions abd being an older post there is no follow up or maintenance of comments on this post. Go buy a paid pattern with better instructions. Hopefully this saves you from getting to the end and being so stuck you throw the project away.ReplyCancel
Hi there, Kasey. I’m sorry you’ve had trouble with this. I have emails all the time about this pattern and how many folks have had success with it. If there’s something you have a question about please leave me a comment here or send me an email and I’m always happy to help. Like you said, this is a free pattern, but I’ve included everything that is needed and more to make a beautiful case. ReplyCancel
I have a huge collection of zippers, and didn’t want to buy one for this project. So I took two 22″ zippers and overlapped them at the bottoms to equal 30″. Then I sewed them together with a zigzag stitch where they met in the center and cut away the excess. Saved me having to hunt for the special zipper I needed and used up some of my zipper stash as well. (The center won’t be seen in the finished product anyway.)ReplyCancel
I know I told you I would have this post up yesterday, but the weather was super dreary on Wednesday, so getting any good pictures would have been next to impossible. I hope waiting an extra day is worth it! I haven’t been doing much garment sewing lately, and I think that’s because my sewing...
Thank you! I don’t know if its harder! I’m wanting to make some shirts for myself, but I thought making a males shirt, even a tiny one, would be good to tackle before attempting a curvier one for a woman. Plus I knew Oliver + S would teach me something valuable, and I do felt I was able to better grasp some techniques.ReplyCancel

What a beautiful dress! I have just found your blog and I love your fabric choices on all your dresses! Absolutely gorgeous! Nice job on the invisible zip with perfect pattern matching. And great fit. I will hunt for the pattern online. We are just going into winter here so I probably won’t sew another dress for a few months but I am inspired by your perfect dress!
Loved the dress in my all-time favourite William Morris print. The pattern works so well with the design of the dress, and well done in getting the zip so accurately matched. I was alerted to this dress by my sister in NZ whose friend saw the dress in a The Quilters Companion magazine, so it has been around the world. Coincidentally on the day my sister emailed me about the dress I received in the mail two metres of that design fabric (but in black) which I ordered from a shop in the US. I am a some-time quilter, and love the fabrics, but now tend to make skirts, usually not with a pattern as the fabric ‘tells’ me what will work. Quilting is certainly a great way to get in touch with others who have a love of fabrics. Michele Hill, a well-known quilter in Aus, was really the one who made William Morris so well known in Aus. She has made many prize-winning quilts based on his designs, and written several wonderful books about her WM journey. I shall keep an eye on your blog! Cheers
This is amazing. I’m planning on making my own “Strawberry Thief” dress, once I figure out a pattern and how much fabric I’ll need. Your photos make me really hopeful that my dress will turn out as cute as I picture it in my head– yours is absolutely adorable!
Thank you so much! I bet your dress will be stunning!
