I told you yesterday I was working on making a Paper Fan Dress for Layla. I finished it last night, and I just love it! I know this is only the first of many.
The Paper Fan Dress is Anna Maria’s newest project written for Janome. It comes in sizes 2-8, so there is a large enough size range to make dresses for all the little girls in your life.
This project has some huge pros that come along with it. First of all, on a scale from 1 to 5, 1 being the easiest and 5 being the hardest, I’d put this dress at a 2. So pretty much anyone with basic sewing skills can make this dress. The second greatest thing about this dress is that almost all seams are enclosed, so there is very little “finishing” required (only the side skirt seams are not enclosed).
The way the pattern is written is so clear and concise. There is no nonsense. I love that. I simply read through the pattern once before beginning, and then as I went through and I didn’t have a single problem.
The Paper Fan Dress is so simple and charming. I think Layla needs like seven of them.
I used a Free Spirit voile solid for the bodice and lined it with a white Bella solid. The skirt part of the dress is a print from Amy Butler’s Love line. All of the fabrics I used were ones that I had on hand. I love that!
That wraps up my review of this pattern. Now follow this link to download the pattern so you can make one of these dresses too!

It’s adorable Meredith! I’m excited to see this dress made up already. If only it came one size smaller! Guess you can’t complain too much about a free pattern, have bookmark it for next summer.
