Today I’m popping in to show off my latest Cleo for the Cleo skirt showcase at Made by Rae.
I couldn’t resist using some giant gingham from Cotton + Steel! A classic skirt silhouette paired with what is arguably one of the most classic fabric designs in modern history is a match made in heaven.
Cleo has deep pockets which I cut on the bias.
It has a flat front and elastic back waistband. It makes for an easy fit, but I think I’ll do a flat back waistband with a zipper next time.
I really love the bottom band! It’s an easy place to do some color blocking, or in this case cut some gingham on the bias for some extra eye candy!
This is the knee length version of the skirt, but Rae also includes a midi variation if you like that length. I think the style is classic, so it serves most silhouettes.
If you are just getting into sewing garments, Cleo is a great one! Its simple and quick to sew, and therefore is an awesome confidence boosting project, which are the best kind when you are learning! You can pick it up over in Rae’s shop.
Be sure to check out all the other stops in the great Cleo parade!

I love the checks cut on the bias. What a nice touch!
Thank you!
I really love this skirt in that large gingham and looking at the close up of the fabric, it appears fairly light weight. Beautiful bias band at the bottom – as you say eye candy!
Thank you!
