Shift a long : HST party

Are you ready to sew??? This week we are going to sew up all the half square triangles, and then next week we will assemble the tops! I know I’ve broken it up to only one step a week, but this quilt, though aesthetically complex is such a breeze to sew together. I hope you are having fun with it.

This week’s featured quilt is brought to you by one of the best places on earth, Jones & Vandermeer (one of the few reasons I’ve ever wanted to visit New York). They have a perfectly curated selection of fabrics, patterns, yarn and more, and let me tell you, resistance is futile. Anyway, I have selected two Liberty prints, Michelle and Gracey, floating on  Kaufman gingham in Fog. It’s cool and refined, yet full of detail. It’s an entirely different look!

So! Half square triangles. We have included instruction on how to sew those up quickly in the pattern, so I won’t repeat all that here, but I will say this: chain piece!!!  It speeds things up tremendously.

If you are working on a complex layout like the one from last week, use your cutting guide (the HST notes I included) as your guide for pairing up the HSTs.

I recommend going in phases. Chain piece as you sew the HSTs, then cut them all in half (down your center marked line). Next comes ironing, then trimming. And, yes, you do need to trim. I know it’s super tedious. But I swear to you that it is worth the time and effort. You will love those crisp points.

Even Wallace can do it! :)

Get to work! And do use #shiftquilt and #shiftalong   Social media is too quiet! I want to hear about your project, so tag me or leave me a comment! I love hearing from you.
