I’ve been playing around with some new bags. I know what I’m going for, and I’m excited to see what is in my head become tangible. I’ve had AMH’s gorgeous LouLouThi velveteens sitting on the shelf above my sewing machine for about nine months. I couldn’t cut into them! I think I’ve found my project for them now. I’ve made up a few foldover clutches, toying around with different methods of construction and such. The first clutch I made is pretty simple featuring a zipper and a magnetic snap. I used two different velveteens to give it maximum visual appeal.

I like it. I love the colors. But the snap did not work on the clutch, and because I didn’t use any sort of stabilizer, it ended up being fairly flimsy. Not bad, but not perfect either.

For my second attempt, I used two different velveteens again. I like this one so much better. I used cotton batting to give it more weight and I chose to forego the magnetic snap this time around so the bag can be reversible. It is a vast improvement.

This bag also has a zippered closure to keep all valuables safely inside.

On both bags, I’ve used a Free Spirit Solid for the lining fabric. That is my go-to brand of solids, and it coordinates with the LouLouThi fabric perfectly.

love them! beautiful. maybe a tiny dot of velcro as a closure as opposed to the snap? just a thought. although i loathe working with velcro ;)
I love these. I havent bought any of these velveteens but this would be a great little gift. I wonder if you stabilized the snap it would work better. Did you use fusible fleese? Those velveteens are the best thing ever!
I used a nice cotton batting as opposed to fusible fleece. I work with fusible fleece a lot, but I was attracted to batting because it has a more fluid movement than the fusible fleece. And I’ve been think about stabilizing the snap, but I hate to puncture another piece of velveteen only for it not to work. That may sound silly, but velveteen is expensive stuff! Do you have any suggestions about stabilizing it that wouldn’t make it too bulky?
