Layla’s Quilt : Finished!

Continuing to take advantage of the burst of energy I’ve had lately, I pulled out the basted quilt that Layla made, and decided she needed it to be finished before her brother arrives. I really didn’t know what to do, so I just went with a criss-cross design and sewed away. Not much thinking, and a lot of doing.

Once again, I used some 28wt Aurifil, and the quilting was totally painless- even with a voile front and back! I bound this quilt with a gray voile from Anna Maria’s Innocent Crush line, and I’m so thrilled that its muted enough that it doesn’t detract from either the front or back of the quilt. In fact, I think it compliments the rest of the quilt quite nicely.

I’m so happy Layla loves her quilt. I’m so proud of her, and it fills my heart that she can now put it to use.

There have been more times than I care to remember that she has requested a quilt and I’ve obliged (because I really don’t need much of an excuse to buy and use fabric!), and then she ends up not using it. That part is really discouraging, especially when she, in a very grown up manner, explains why a trashy big box store fleece blanket (that I did not buy) is better because its softer. You know, she likes the quilt, but she just likes the other ones better. :/ I think she loves not only the voile (which is ridiculously soft), but also the fact that this is something that came from her hands. I’m looking forward to seeing her use this one for years to come.

I’m finishing up a matching Nano Iro blanket for the big sister now, and I can’t wait to share it with you! But first I have some fabric goodies to share tomorrow.
