KCW : Wallace takes on Woody

This post is grossly overdue, but it’s packed with extra cuteness so I hope it will make up for the lateness. My final project for Kid’s Clothing Week (which was finished during KCW) was a Woody ensemble for Wallace. He loves his Woody toy and I thought this would make the perfect dress up outfit for him.

You may not think yellow and red plaid is hard to find, but let me assure you, the print that Woody wears does not exist in the designer or big box world. Not even something similar. So I chose the matchstick print from Rashida Coleman-Hale’s first collection for Cotton and Steel. I love it so much!

The shirt pattern I used is none other than the Oliver + S Sketchbook Shirt. It’s one of my all time favorite patterns and I’ve made many of them. You can even read about my review of the pattern here if you so desire.

Next up was finding a cow print for the vest. Now I was just planning on going with a standard quilting weight cotton for the vest, but once again I discovered that this did not exist at any local place nor any online shop I checked. Right when I was about to give up I walked past some faux furs in Hancocks, and they happened to have a cow print. And this is funny to me because it’s super fluffy and cows are not super fluffy. Perhaps some breeds, but not your average black and white dairy cow.

Anyway, I got that fluffy print and drafted up a pattern loosely based on a vest he wears regularly. I was shocked at how much fluff came off of this little piece of fabric while in the making, but I did manage to get it cleaned up. The vest is fully lined with Free Spirit Designer Solid in Licorice. I bound the sleeves and the rest of it in that same solid.

It was crazy quick to make and I do love it, fluff and all! Thankfully it does not shed now that it is sewn into a garment.

The last parts of the ensemble were his boots which came from Sears, and the bandana which I picked up at Walmart. Neither are handmade, but I’m okay with that.

I just love this outfit so much. This child just slays me. He wore it out when I took the kids to the Fondue Fairytale at the Melting Pot with Peter Pan. Layla went in her Alice outfit, and they were just as cute as can be!

I had such fun participating in Kid’s Clothing Week! The children got both useful and fun clothes, and I had the best time planning out and making them.
