I sewed in the lining of my dress today. I’m still in need of a zipper, so I haven’t completed it yet. Also, it needs to be hemmed. In the meantime, I’m just adoring the dress. I keep looking at it and touching it. And gosh does it feel amazing! A voile dress lined with more voile- no, it does not get any more luxurious, I’m sure. The nicest thing about it is that even though it is fully lined, I’ll be able to wear it year round in the scorching Florida heat because it might weigh a whole two ounces. Its incredibly light! I can’t wait to get that zipper in.
The way I see garment making, you need not take any shortcuts because you are already spending more than you would a [insert foreign country] labor dress. Also, I’m making this dress to fit me exactly. I want it to be perfect in every way I have the ability to make it so. While Layla painted today, I spent some time with my needle and thread blind stitching the bodice lining to the skirt lining so I didn’t have to add any edge stitching to the front of the dress. I don’t mind edge stitching, but I thought might as well take the extra time to stitch that part by hand. I’m happy I did and I cannot wait to unveil to finished dress to you! :D
I think I’ll use my evening to begin the next letter in my “Layla” embroidery. The hard part will be choosing which Little Folks print to use for the background!
