I drank the Kool Aid. I made my first Wiksten tank.

I can certainly say that I understand why this and the Tova pattern are so addictive. Its such a quick project! The only part I really didn’t care for was hemming the bottom of the shirt, but I’m going to do some research and see if I can’t just use some bias binding to avoid the hemming fiasco.

 But more about the shirt I made. I wasn’t at all sure about how this shirt would work on me. I mean, most of the people I’ve seen wear it are either curvy or just really, really tiny on bottom. Well I’m pear shaped. I have a small waist and a generously sized booty, so I didn’t want this shirt making me look big all over. Since I was unwilling to make a shirt that probably wouldn’t work on me with my fabric, I chose to try out the pattern on an old Kenneth Cole men’s shirt.

And you know what? I think it’s stinking awesome. No, its not the most flattering shape on me,  but I can make alterations here and there to change that. Or I can just pair it with a slim belt around the waist.

I love the above-the-shoulder seam in the back. I think it really takes away from the ‘homemade’ look. also, I have a button down in the front. I sewed it together, so its not functional, but it does look cool, right?

I’ll probably go up a size on my next tank. I found that the armpit holes are a bit small. Or maybe I can just enlarge the pit size? You can see that my arms are a little constricted, and I don’t have big arms at all. 

Next up, I’ll have to try out the dress. I already have some fabric set aside for that. I’m going to have to make up a muslin in that too, though, because just from the pattern pieces it looks a little short.
