This morning I woke up early and worked out, something I need to do more often now that I’m officially in my 20s and can’t go back to being a teenager. I hope to hold to an early morning routine so I can keep up with my rambunctious little Layla.
After Layla was up, we ran over to my parents’ storage unit. They were paying way too much for their space and wanted to downsize, so I was invited along to get rid of my junk and to take some goodies off their hands. While going through the mounds of junk I had collected through my teenage years, I did come across a few treasures. First I found my Claus. This little guy was given to me on my first Christmas, so he’s about 21 years old. And he looks like it. My Nanny made countless repairs on dear Claus over the years, hence the random colored threads all over his fragile body.
My mom also gave me the chair Claus is sitting on. I love old chairs, and this one is very beautiful. It is my new sewing chair, so now the old one I was sitting on can go back to the dining room table. (We don’t have enough chairs around here).
While downsizing their unit, I spotted this blanket.
I believe it was crocheted by my Nanny and I’d love to make one like it! This is similar to what I wanted to make with her when she was still living. Of all the things I remember about her house, this blanket is so very prominent in my memories, and I feel so blessed to have it. The chest also came home with me today. It sure is a beauty and I can’t wait to treat the wood and give it a permanent home in our bedroom. I’ve always wanted a gorgeous antique chest!
Inside that chest was a great surprise. I have to say if ever had the pleasure of knowing my grandma, you would know this kind of thing really was her. I’m so happy to now have this lovely work hanging in my studio!
I’ve got to make a run to Goodwill and then finish finding places for the items I ended up keeping. I hope you are having a great Friday!
