So you may be wondering what this business is all about anyway. Basically, beginning December 1st (God willing!), I will be launching an Etsy shop selling all sorts of things. The theme will be modern handmade good for mom and baby, and some for the rest of the family, too.
All my life I’ve been interested in sewing, textiles, and the like. My biggest inspiration was my Nanny. She had loads upon loads of beautiful quilts in her house. On the beds, on quilt stands. They always stood out to me and I remember telling her I really wanted her to teach me to quilt. I wanted just the two of us to handcraft an entire quilt. She told me when I was old enough we would someday. Unfortunately, she died before we ever got the chance. But now, I still look at her quilts and I’m looking at history. At a small part of her legacy. I love it.
A Christmas or two after she died, I received my first sewing machine. I was thrilled. I made a pillow for my bed. But I lacked guidance, and if you sew you already know how expensive good fabric can get. Needless to say, for the next several years I sewed very little.
When I was 19 and pregnant with Layla, a friend introduced me to Amy Butler’s fantastic fabric. The gorgeous modern design inspired me, and I’ve been sewing like a madwoman ever since. I think I said this before, but a day without sewing is just flat out strange. I love making quilts, especially baby quilts for Layla and the business. And I love making diaper bags, hats, and clothing for babies.
Sewing has really become a passion for me. I hope that the more you learn about me and Olivia Jane Handcrafted, you really see that love goes into each and every thing I make.
Here’s a preview of what I’ll be selling starting December 1st:
By the way: these photos and all the one’s you’ll see in my shop were taken by Emilee of Emilee Fuss Photography. Check out her site! Thanks Emilee!!!!
