Layla’s birthday is tomorrow.
WHAT?!
Yes. And she is turning two. What the heck?! Am I even old enough to have a two year old? Has it really been this long? I’m still trying to sort through all of this and accept that my tiny baby is not a tiny baby, but actually a 21 year old stuck inside the body of an almost two year old. Sigh. Where is the freeze ray when you need it?
I have managed to finish all of her birthday presents in time for her party tomorrow. I’ve already shown you the crayon roll and the penguin backpack and the memory game. Yesterday I completed this:
Layla loves helping me cook- those times that I actually cook. But she also loves helping me press the buttons on the microwave when its one of those meals. Don’t judge haha. So I knew my little helper would need an apron to really feel as though she was doing something. When I want to feel like I’m doing legit cooking, I put on my apron, so now she can do the same. Also, her grandparents have bought her a little kitchen, so even when mommy isn’t cooking, she can serve up some plastic goodies.
I love love love the way this apron turned out. I didn’t follow a pattern, but just guesstimated her size. I used this fabulous fabric from Laura Gunn’s Garden Wall collection from Hawthorne Threads. I love that it is so feminine!
The top section was a little heavy with all those pleats, so I chose to line the back to give it some extra stability. Plus it covered up the stitching where the pleats and button were sewn on. I didn’t line the bottom, simply because it is light and I didn’t want it to be too stiff.
I added pleats on the bottom of the skirt to match the ones used on the top panel.
This apron was so much fun to make, I think I might add a few to the shop. What do you think? Would you buy one?
Enjoy the remainder of your Sunday!
