Productivity

Today I’ve gotten a lot done. I’ve already added a few rows to my ROY G BIV quilt, and I finished my Bee blocks for July. Take a look:

Its a little hard to tell, but one of these is red and the other is orange.

These were paper pieced, something I had not done prior to this month. At first I hated it, but I learned that it had some pros to it.

My thoughts:

Pros: extremely accurately sized blocks, eliminates the need for precision cutting

Cons: Big waste of fabric (especially for a fabric frugal person like me), requires the use of quite a bit of paper, especially if you are making a whole quilt, time consuming

Overall, I think the pros and cons are pretty equal, so the manner of piecing is really just a matter of preference. If you don’t like to spend forever cutting perfect pieces, paper piecing is probably right for you. However, if you prefer to salvage as much fabric as you can, or you like for a piece of fabric to go as far as it can go, you should probably stick to traditional piecing.

I did learn a lot from this month’s Bee project and I will most likely use this method again if I have a project with complicated piecing. I’m always excited to learn a new method, even if it turns out to be one I don’t like, at least I’m informed enough to choose what is right for me. I encourage you to always be open to new methods as well because you might just discover an easier way or a more accurate way to do something.

Well these are off to Australia tomorrow, and I can’t wait to see the finished quilt! I’ll be sure to post a link once Bek finishes it!

Enjoy the rest of your Thursday!

xo, Mere
