Preparations

I have been trying to figure out what I can make for Layla that will be really special for her second birthday next month. She made that decision very easy by telling me that she wanted a backpack last week. I already had Leisl Gibson’s book Oliver + S : Little Things to Sew (available on my Amazon widget to the right –>), which has a super cute backpack pattern in it, so I’ve gotten right to work.

I have to say, this pattern has more pieces than any other pattern I’ve ever heard of. I can’t imagine it was necessary to make 16 pattern pieces for one project, but I’ll forge ahead and follow the pattern just as it was written. It was especially difficult to wrangle that big ole pattern paper to fit under the copier (I always copy my patterns so I can use them over and over), but I have only heard wonderful things about Oliver + S patterns, so I am very excited about this project.

I got the pattern pieces cut out and notched and now I just have to cut out the fabric. I think that part will have to wait for tomorrow though. It is Valentine’s Day after all, and I happen to have a hot date with my hoosband. Do you have any Valentine’s Day plans?
