I finished my latest Oliver + S dress. This time around, I made Layla the Bubble Dress. I love it so much! And aside from doing sewing the lining closed by hand, it was probably the simplest of the patterns I’ve made to date. Just a note: I could have used an edgestitch to close the lining, but I wanted the stitches to be invisible, so I went with a blindstitch, which while an easy stitch, it significantly more time consuming when working with two layers of voile.
The dress fits perfectly, and I didn’t have a single problem making the button holes. I don’t typically have a hard time making the holes, but if you sew, I’m sure you know that when a project has gone successfully, the mess up point typically happens when it comes time to sew the button holes.
I used fabric from Anna Maria’s Little Folks line (which is one of the best lines ever made ever), but I should say that this fabric combo is not original to me. I knew that I wanted to make this dress and I knew I wanted to use the fabric I used for the skirt, but the decision to use the blue pastry line stripe came after seeing this picture on Flickr.
This is the last dress I’ll be making Layla for a month or so, while I begin to focus on some other projects that I’m eager to tackle.
I do hope this post finds you having a great Monday! I’ll have a new stitching project to show you in the morning.
