Well the Genevieve Quilt is all finished. I have such a feeling of satisfaction just looking at the completed work. Certainly, I would have to say this is by far my greatest quilting achievement. I might actually cry when I part with it- tears of joy, though!
This quilt started out as a dream, then it became a drawing. It sat dormant in a notebook for a while. A month ago I remembered it, and feeling somewhat daring, I ordered Amy Butler’s Soul Blossoms. I spent hours upon hours cutting out the rectangles and other pieces. Happy to be done with that phase of the work, I had so much fun sewing them all together, and watching those pieces evolve into something bigger.
Looking at the size of the quilt, I knew I wouldn’t be able to machine quilt it while trying to maintain a reasonable level of sanity. Plus machine quilting just wouldn’t do justice to this baby. Honestly, all the time I spent with it, it might as well have been a baby. So I set out to do something quite impossible for an impatient person like me- I hand quilted the whole thing. Hand quitling probably took me probably 35 hours or so. But let me tell you, it was so worth it. There was so much love in each and every stitch. I feel that I gained quite a bit of patience, which was a bonus, but somehow doing the quilting by hand seemed to be the better way to go over machine quilting.
I’m sure you’ve noticed the hard time I’m having putting this feeling into words, but there really is a feeling of fulfillment and pride that comes with hand quilting that you just don’t get with machine quilting- atleast not to the same degree.
Without further ado, here it is, the Genevieve quilt:
I promise follow-up post with more product details, and better pictures (compliments of Emilee Fuss Photography). Also, I will have a link to the page on Etsy where you can purchase the Genevieve Quilt!
Until then,
