Come and stay a while

I have some simple glass cups that a friend gave us as a housewarming gift when we moved in. We also have a few Tervis Tumblers which I absolutely love because they don’t sweat all over the place like glass cups. I wish I had a whole cabinet full of Tervis Tumblers, but I don’t right now. And since I don’t have the cash to invest in a whole bunch of new cups, I decided to take care of my cup-sweating problem by making myself some coasters.

What is the very best thing about these coasters? I made all eight of them from scrap fabric, so they were pretty much free!

I have no idea how I have gone so long without proper coasters. I guess I’ve just been wiping up water spots without much thought. But lately I’ve been needlepointing a lot, and I’ve been freaking out about my canvas getting wet (because the colors on the canvas will run if wet), so having some coasters that will soak up sweat from glasses has become an obvious necessity.

I used scraps of LouLouThi for the front. To piece them together, I line up some of the already-pieced scraps, and cut out some improv curves. Once I had a piece I thought was large enough, I cut out eight 4.5″ squares. I also cut eight 4.5″ squares from batting and a grey Bella solid that I used for the backing. I sewed them up, and now I have eight great looking coasters that coordinate with my Rainbow Road table runner.

Now I’m excited to have some friends over so I can put all eight to use!

There’s nothing better than making something useful in a short amount of time. Very gratifying.
