I don’t have any little ones to make this for right now as my two daughters are young adults, but I hope that someday I may have grandchildren to sew for. I’m so lost trying to work on this project. Above when you are cutting pieces you write, “Sew them together along the 54″ sides right sides together, and you will then have a piece that is approximately 54″ x 82″.What is this referring to? What is the “them”? Why is any section 82″ if the fabric is 50 x 60?I’m so confused. I’m at this part of the project and I’m not following this at all because it’s not specific. I also don’t understand why the sleeping bag lining needs to be larger than the exterior fabric. When you sew it together it will be too large and need to be cut. Is this just to add a safety net in case i’ts not pinned correctly? I’m going to have to start winging it if I can’t figure this out. So lost.ReplyCancel

  I’m happy to help. I am so sorry you are discouraged, but I will do my best to explain. I know exactly what you are talking about here. The first several steps here are very similar to making a quilt and when you do that, you ALWAYS have a larger batting and backing than the front of the quilt because you trim it down to the same size after quilting. 54-56” is the recommended width of the lining fabric which is 4-6” wider than the front of the sleeping bag. Standard quilting cotton is 42-44” wide when it it opened up, so that is where I’m getting the approximate 82”. When you cut off selvedges and sew those two identical pieces together, you will have a large lining panel that is about 54-56” x 82” you can trim the longer edge so that it’s about 54-56” x 66” so that you have about three inches of lining “sticking out” if you center the front panel on top of it. I promise it is needed.
  
  This is one where you do kind of need to read through, feel free to ask as many questions as you want, and also do trust the process! This is a tried and true project and I know if you keep going, you will have a sleeping bag you will love! ReplyCancel

It is great fun to see Layla’s personalized jacket and style. I remember having my own denim jacket when I was younger. Unfortunately, I left that jacket at an orchard, quite far from my home. I sewed a reversible floppy hat in Home Ec in the 1970s. I had buttons (pins) all over it and I thought I was the coolest thing going! I wore the hat at summer camp and got the impression that maybe everybody did not think my hat was as stylish as I did!That jean jacket IS seriously cool though!ReplyCancel

I was a teenager in the 80s
High wasted Levi 501 jeans and wrangler jeans, ankle boots and leg warmers, had a few denim jackets too, I remember I had a white one, long colourful shirts with big wide belts.
Love the jacket with all the embroidery. I have bought my own embroidery machine recently ReplyCancel

I love that Layla is taking her personal style into her own hands and embellishing her denim jacket. It’s a great way to make a statement and show off her unique personality. I also love that she’s inspired by the styles of the 2000s. I think that was a great time for fashion, and there were so many different trends to choose from. I think it’s great that Layla is following in my footsteps and personalizing her own denim jacket. It’s a great way to create a jacket that is uniquely hers. I also wanted to add that I love the <a href=”https://www.thewesternoutfitters.com/collection/yellowstone-jackets/”>Yellowstone jackets</a>. I’m a big fan of the show, and I think the jackets are a great way to show your support.

Layla’s denim jacket is fantastic! It sounds like she put a great deal of thought into the designing details, and it really paid off! She created a personalized piece of art that she can wear. … I am curious how much time it took to embroider the various designs. I am sure that others would happily pay her to create personalized, one of a kind jackets for themselves & others. ReplyCancel
