I stayed home from church today with Layla Grace. She’s had some sort of stomach virus. I don’t know how she got it, but it’s the first time I’ve ever had to deal with vomit that’s not my own. Its certainly a new experience, but something that comes with mom territory so I’m just learning as I go.
Anyway, I’ve been thinking about some things to give Layla for her birthday, and I thought a crayon roll would be perfect. I’ve always wanted to make her one, but always had some other project I was in the middle of. When I saw these crayon rolls on Emily’s blog, I knew now was the time to put away my excuses and make Layla her own crayon roll. Today was just perfect since I had some time I wouldn’t usually have on a Sunday.
I made this one this morning in about 30-45 minutes using some of Kate Spain’s Central Park. It was a very quick and gratifying project, and I know I’ll be making more. My roll holds 12 crayons compared to the 18 in Emily’s. But I did use her elastic strap idea. Also, I added a flap at the top to keep the crayons from accidentally sliding out. We don’t want to lose any!
All I need now is a new pack of crayons for Layla. As you can see, the one’s that I put in there for the pictures are pretty beat up and partially eaten. Now that she’s almost two, I think she can better handle them.
Well that’s all I’ve got for you today. I’d be more than happy to whip up a tutorial for a crayon roll. They are so simple to make and would be perfect as a gift to any little one. If you would like me to write up a tutorial, just let me know!

This looks great! Great job! :-)
I would love a tutorial! I think the flap at the top to keep the crayons from falling out is genius! I also really like the elastic handle….
Great, Elise! I’ll try to have a tutorial up here shortly!
