Oliver + S : The Play Date Dress

Yesterday I had the pleasure of playing with more of Juliana Horner’s debut line, Rosette. Again, I used my favorite print, but this time in the orange colorway. I paired it with the brown wicker print to make the Oliver + S Play Date Dress for Layla.

I think its the perfect fall time dress, and I love that the palette is totally different from any that I’ve used for garments before now. Orange is typically a color I shy away from, but the shades in Juliana’s line are so rich and beautiful, I figured my blonde daughter could pull off the look just fine. She is kind of a cutie….

Now watch how quickly the emotions of a three year old girl can change.

This dress was so much fun to make! It was a simple sew, with the most complicated part being the curved yoke. But truly, even that was easy to sew. Liesl Gibson makes everything seem easy with her detailed patterns. That is why I have so many of them!

Layla’s favorite part of any outfit is pockets that she can load down with rocks. This dress is no exception. I think she likes that these pockets are hidden on the inside of the dress- something altogether new for her. I’ll need to remember they are there come laundry time.

How do you like the orange paired with the brown? I was toying around with the idea of combining the orange floral with some denim chambray. I do believe I’ll be experimenting with that mix very soon. I’m really on a chambray kick these days! It goes with just about everything.

If you would like to make your own Play Date Dress you can find the PDF right here in the Oliver + S shop! While you’re there, check out all the other patterns Liesl has to offer! I think she has the most well written patterns out there, so regardless of what you may choose, you certainly cannot go wrong.

Do stop back in tomorrow. I have something very special to share with you!
